[Also in Group XXVII] In combined ignition, lighting and battery charging circuits for internal-combustion engines of the kind in which an A.C. generator G is arranged to feed an ignition circuit comprising, for example, coil 17, interrupter 18, condenser 19 and sparking plug 20, the generator G provides current for battery charging purposes to a rectifier 21 and battery charging purposes to a rectifier 21 and battery 24 in parallel with the ignition circuit, and the same generator winding or windings 11 energize both the battery and ignition circuits. The sixpole generator G has a four-pole armature, the four coils being arranged in opposite pairs 11, 12 ; the windings 11 charge battery 24 through a parallel circuit consisting of one cell of the twin-cell rectifier 21 and an ammeter 23. Operation of a change-over switch 16 enables the ignition circuit to be energized by the battery 24 instead of the generator G. The other pair of armature coils 12 feed charging current to the battery 24 through the second cell of the rectifier 21 in addition to supplying a parallel circuit comprising lamps 29-31 ; operation of a second change-over switch 32 enables the lamps to be fed from the battery instead of the generator. A sparking lamp 34 which is provided with a separate switch 36 is so arranged that it can only be supplied with battery current. A choke or resistance, not shown, may be included in the charging side of the ignition circuit and in series with the battery 24. If the generator enables an adequate spark to be obtained at idling the first change-over switch 16 may be dispensed with. The generator may have more than two phases, the additional phases supplying one of a corresponding number of lamp circuits, each having another rectifier cell and the same battery in parallel therewith. Details of the wire gauge and number of rows in each coil are given.
