[Also in Group XXV] A window is pivoted at a middle point to a fixed frame on pivots lying outside the frame and window, one half of the window swinging inside and the other outside the frame, longitudinal surfaces on frame and window registering to provide tight joints and additional jointing surfaces being provided at right angles to the pivoting sides and cooperating with the longitudinal surfaces to provide an uninterrupted joint in the region of the pivots. A window comprising leaves B, C hinged along the sides 2 is rotatable on pivots 4 about an axis outside the plane of the window and its fixed frame 'A. A joint surface 26 of trapezoidal section at the pivots extends parallel to the axis at right angles to and for the whole width of the longitudinal joints. Plates 8 secured to the window are mounted on the pivots with two pairs of friction and compression discs so that the window moves freely in the direction of arrow X but is restrained from an opposite movement under gravity. The plates 8 are connected to the window by the engagement of noses 28, 30, with pairs of hooks 32 on the window uprights ; on rotation the window is allowed to slide until another pair of hooks 34 is caught by the noses and the window may then be swung until in reversed position parallel to the frame with the hinged sides 2 lowermost, or by disengagement of the hooks the window may be caused to slide its full length with sides 2 touching the floor and the leaves B, C opened. An air-tight space between the double panes of each leaf may accommodate a venetian blind 38. The panes are secured by strips the lowermost having grooves registering with grooves in the frame B serving as drip channels for rain.
