Abstract

703,042. Exhaust-silencers. MAXIM SILENCER CO. April 1, 1952 [April 18, 1951], No. 8242/52. Class 7(2) A substantially cylindrical shell 10 having end headers 11, 12 is divided into inlet and outlet chambers 14, 15 by a partition 13 through which passes an open-ended conduit 16, preferably coaxially with the shell, terminating at opposite ends between the partition and the ends 11, 12, and an outlet conduit 17 passes through the end 11 and coaxially through the conduit 16 to terminate within the chamber 15 and adjacent the end 12. Anti-resonance holes 23 are provided in the conduit on the side opposite the inlet 20, the conduit 17 having similar holes 24 in that side adjacent the inlet. A slot 25 to assist the anti-resonance system may be provided in the conduit 17. A baffle 21 may direct the gases downwardly into the chamber 14 from which the gases flow through the annular space 18 between the conduits 16, 17 and into the chamber 15. In modifications, the inlet conduit (a) enters the shell tangentially, (b) is .downwardly directed, and (c) is located adjacent the partition 13. U.S.A. Specification 2,297,046 is referred to.
