Abstract

A closed capsule of water soluble material, e.g. gelatine, contains a systemic insecticide, which may be dissolved in an inert solvent, e.g. acetone. The systemic insecticide is preferably a compound of one of the following general formulae: <FORM:0702607/VI/1> wherein R1 and R2 each represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl or cycloakyl group, R3 and R1 each represents an alkyl or cycloalkyl group containing not more than eight carbon atoms and X represents fluorine or the azido group N3; <FORM:0702607/VI/2> wherein R1 and R2 each represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl or cycloalkyl group containing not more than eight carbon atoms, and R3 and R1 each represent an alkyl or cyclo alkyl group containing not more than eight carbon atoms; <FORM:0702607/VI/3> wherein R1 and R2 each represents an alkyl group containing not more than eight carbon atoms and R3 represents an alkyl chain whch may be interrupted by one or more sulphur or oxygen atoms. Compounds specified are: bis-dimethylamino-fluorophosphine oxide, bis-monoisopropylamino-fluorphosphine oxide, bis (bis-dionethylamino phosphonous) anhydride, and compounds of the formula : (C2H5O)2P(O)S-C2H4-S-C2 H5 (C2H5O)2P(S)O-C2H4-S-C2 H5 (C2H5O)2P(O)S-C2H4-S-CH3 and (C2H5O)2P(S)O-C2H4 -S-CH3 A gelatine capsule containing not more than 5 per cent of glycerol may be employed. Other plastizers such as dimethylene glycol may be employed. In a capsule containing a water-soluble hygroscopic systemic insecticide which is not readily hydrolyzed, the insecticide preferably contains water and a plasticizer for the material of the capsule. Plasticizers specified are: glycerine, dimethylene glycol, diethylene glycol and propylene glycol.
