Abstract

702,239. Endless conveyers. BRECKNELL, MUNRO & ROGERS, Ltd., and DOLMAN, H. J. Oct. 25, 1951, No. 24957/51. Addition to 674,942. Class 78 (1) [Also in Groups XVI, XVII and XXIV] Endless conveyer means for pushing a stack of articles through a wrapping machine, [Group XVII], includes two spaced parallel chains 117 arranged on either side of a slideway 111 and having transversely connecting carrier bars 119, to each of which is hinged a pusher 120 normally spring-urged into a position at rightangles to the bar 119. A trailing rod 240 also carried by the bar 119 is adapted to hold down the lower rear extension of a wrapper around the stack during part of the wrapping operation. The conveyer is given alternately a long forward movement and a short backward movement, to enable the wrapping to be effected completely, by back-stepping mechanism driven from a main shaft 135 which is clutched in for one revolution each time a stack is fed to the machine. The back-stepping mechanism includes, Figs. 9, 10, 11c, two ratchet wheels 127, 128 keyed to a spindle 122 in driving connection with the conveyer chains. The wheel 127 is formed with pairs of oppositely directed notches 125, 125A and 126, 126A adapted to be engaged by pawls 123, 124 respectively, pivotally carried by an arm 121 oscillated about the spindle 122 by a link 151 operated by a cam 146 on the shaft 135. The wheel 128 has notches 129, 129A adapted to co-operate with a pawl 130 pivotally carried by a disc 131 loosely mounted on the shaft 122 and driven by gearing from the shaft 135. Cam blocks 154, 155 on a slide 153 vertically reciprocated by a cam 147 on the shaft 135 engage the pawls 123, 130 at suitable times so that the pawl 130, taking over from the pawl 124, first gives a long movement in one direction, the pawl 123 being held by a cam, is then disengaged by a cam and the pawl 123 allowed to give a short reverse movement.
