Abstract
701,778. Refrigerating. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Dec. 5, 1952 [Dec. 12, 1951], No. 30926/52. Class 29 In a flooded refrigerator evaporator unit. 6 in which liquid refrigerant flows from a header 10 through a pipe 15 and liquid trap 16 to a coil 14 on the bottom of the unit and a second coil 17 on the back wall of the unit, the coil 17 leading into the header above the liquid level therein and liquid refrigerant being fed to the evaporators near the junction of the coils 14, 17 by a restricted tube 18, defrosting is effected by heaters 20, 22 clamped to the first stretches of the coils 14, 17 respectively and connected in series. Vapour generated by the heaters is condensed in later portions of the evaporator coils and also effects recirculation of the refrigerant through the coils and header. The electric supply to the heaters is controlled by a switch 27 actuated by any suitable means, e.g. at predetermined intervals.
