Abstract

700,162. Valve amplifying circuits. POSTMASTER GENERAL. Oct. 20, 1950 [May 16, 1949], No. 13012/49. Class 40 (6) in an amplifier having two or more stages, one being coupled to the next over a parallel combination of inductance, capacity and resistance, a band-pass effect is obtained by negative feedback. The coupling circuit is tuned to the geometrical mean frequency of the pass-band. Circuits L1, C1, R1 and L2, C2, R2 are tuned to the mid-frequency of the pass-band, a resistor R3 common to the cathodes of valve V1, V3 providing negative feedback. The feedback in a four valve amplifier, Fig. 2 (not shown), is apnlied to the grid circuit of valve V1 while the input is applied to the cathode. In modifications, Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown), the resistor R3 is replaced by a series circuit comprising an inductor, capacitor and resistor. The feedback impedance may be replaced by networks of resistors, Fig. 6 (not shown), or a combination of an inductor, capacitor and resistors, Fig. 7 (not shown). Any stage of the amplifier may take the form of a grounded cathode valve driving a grounded grid valve, Fig. 5 (not shown).
