Abstract
699,353. Valve modulating circuits. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. June 4, 1951 [Oct. 13, 1950], No. 25059/50. Class 40 (v). An anode-modulated push-pull high-frequency stage with Class B modulator comprises a centre-tapped tuned circuit TC, C4, C5 connected by blocking condensers C1, C2 to the anodes of the push-pull valves V3, V4 and with centre-tapped connection as shown to the cathodes of the valves through a condenser C3 shunted by a leak resistor R. If C3, since it carries only the second harmonic of the carrier oscillation, is made small compared with C1 and C2, the shunting effect of C1, C2 across the modulation transformer producing distortion at high audio frequencies is reduced, a low-pass filter between the modulator and anodes of valves V3, V4 is unnecessary, and since audio frequency voltage arises mainly across C3, the voltage rating of C1, C2 can be reduced.
