A polyphase induction motor with a squirrel-cage rotor has salient poles on the stator, the arrangement of the bobbin type coils on the poles in the Figure being such that every four poles form the pole of one phase, the pole groups corresponding to the individual phases R, S, T following one another in the order +R - T +S, - R - +T - S. Other plural numbers of polepieces can be arranged to form one effective pole.
