Abstract

699,300. Protective cut-out arrangements. REYROLLE & CO., Ltd., A. Oct. 1, 1951 [Oct. 10, 1950], No. 24778/50. Class 38 (v) A fault-responsive arrangement for energising the starting device G of the carrier-current protective gear of, e.g. Specifications 598,581 or 610,610, comprises an operating and a bias network, H<SP>1</SP>, H<SP>2</SP>, respectively, both fed from the current transformer secondaries D<SP>1</SP>, D<SP>2</SP>, D<SP>3</SP>, the outputs of the networks being connected in opposition and normally balanced, and means for delaying the effective response of the network H<SP>2</SP> to sudden changes in the line currents, so that the outputs unbalance and device G is energised. In one form, Fig. 3, the networks H<SP>1</SP>, H<SP>2</SP> are arranged respectively, to segregate positive, and positive and negative phase-sequence components, which are applied over saturable transformers U, Q to bridge rectifiers U<SP>1</SP>, Q<SP>1</SP>. The rectified outputs are connected in opposition, that from rectifier U<SP>1</SP> across a resistance U<SP>3</SP> and that from Q<SP>1</SP> across a condenser Q<SP>2</SP> in series with a resistance Q<SP>3</SP> which provides a time-delay in the charging of the condenser. A rectifier Q<SP>4</SP> ensures a rapid discharge. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the network H<SP>1</SP> comprises the system described in Specification 683,989. Either arrangement ensures the detection of a fault in cases where the maximum permissible load current under some conditions may exceed the three-phase fault current under other conditions.
