Abstract
699,046. Time switches. JUNGHANS AKT.- GES., GEB. Aug. 14, 1951, No. 19164/51. Class 38 (v) A time switch comprises a clockwork-driven drum 1 carrying on its periphery at, say, 15 minute intervals a series of tappets or riders 2 any one of which may be moved by hand from a central inactive position into one or other of two active positions wherein rotation of the drum causes it to engage a finger 3a or 4a and move a mercury switch 3 off or on at a time corresponding to the position of the rider on the drum. The mercury switch is held in one or other of its positions by a spring biased lever 6 engaging a wedge 3b. In the form shown in Figs. 1, 2, the riders 2 are threaded on a circular wire about which they can pivot into positions determined by a spring catch 9. In Figs. 6, 7, riders 15 are movable rectilinearly into their three positions, two of which are shown dotted, and the drum comprises two outer discs 10, 11, and an inner disc 12 with three grooves to receive and locate the ends 16 of the riders. A split ring 24 surrounds the circle of riders and may be rotated to enable any rider to be removed or replaced. The end 26 of any rider, according to its setting, is adapted to engage an arm, 17 or 18 of a lever 19 thereby rotating a shaft 20 which carries the mercury switch. This modification, in addition to having a drum which rotates once in 24 hours, has a minute dial rotating once an hour and co-operating with a fixed pointer to enable accurate time setting to be made. Any finger 26 of any rider may also be bent to enable operation of the switch to occur at times within the 15 minute intervals. To put the apparatus out of action on Sundays or holidays, the device may include Fig. 11, a cam 33 with a step which, once a day causes the sudden operation of a lever 34 and the movement by one step of a seven-pointed star wheel 39 which carries round with it a wheel 40 with seven holes 41 into any one of which a pin may be inserted. At the appropriate day this pin operates a wire 43 which rotates a shaft 46 carrying a wire 44 which moves the mercury switch 48 into the off position and also moves it axially so as to put it out of engagement by the riders on the drum.
