Abstract
698,091. Vehicles and storage chambers equipped with conveyers; hoppers. WILSON, J. N. July 30, 1951. [Aug. 8, 1950] No. 19709/50. Classes 78 (i) and 78 (iv). A false bottom comprising plates 10 hinged at their upper ends and adapted to meet at their lower ends prevents finely divided material carried in a container from clogging conveying means (as illustrated, a screw conveyer 7) provided in the container for unloading it. In the semi-trailer vehicle illustrated the plates 10, which are formed at their lower ends with rubber seals 19, are raised and lowered by hydraulic jacks 11 which may be locked in their extended positions. When raised the plates may be vibrated by suitable electrical or mechanical vibrator units or, as shown, by cams 12 acting on the jacks 11 through levers 13 carried by brackets on the walls 9 of the body, or by both. Vibrators may also be provided on the walls 9. Several pairs of plates 10 may be arranged end to end and their controls may be interlocked to ensure that the pairs can be lowered only in proper sequence and after the conveyer 7 has been started. The conveyer 7 delivers to a hose coupling near the rear of the vehicle and preferably slopes downwardly. Its drive cannot be started until the outlet is opened and includes means to prevent reverse rotation. The body is filled through a hose coupling at the rear of the body and above an upwardly inclined screw conveyer 6 which cannot be driven unless the plates 10 are closed. A further hose coupling (not shown) in the upper part of the body enables it to be kept under exhaust. The conveyers and the shafts 13 of the vibrator cams may be driven from a motor on the trailer, from the tractor engine or from any other source of power and the drive may be protected by a frangible pin. The drive to the camshafts 13 may be arranged to be effective only when the plates 10 are raised. Specification 592,521 is referred to.
