The sinker head 13 of a straight-bar machine is pivotally mounted by being secured to arms 12 mounted on a shaft 2. Movement of the sinker head during the knitting operations by levers 8 actuated by cams 10, raises and lowers the presser edge 3 associated with the sinker head thereby reducing the movement of the needles.
