Abstract

697,603. Surgical forceps. GLADSTONE, S. A. Sept. 13, 1949 [Oct. 6, 1948; Dec. 29, 1948], Nos. 23586/49 and 23587/49. Class 81 (ii). A forceps by means of which a piece of sponge material may be rubbed on a tumour surface to pick up tissue for pathological examination, comprises co-operating long and short jaws, 7, 6 respectively, which grip the sponge so that the greater part of its surface on one side is free while the opposite side is backed up by the long jaw. The outer face of the shorter jaw may be serrated or roughened to facilitate abrasion of the surface and the gripping ends of the jaws may be set ai an angle to the main axis of the forceps to make manipulation easier.
