Apparatus for pressing material against the edge of a sole at the toe and heel parts for its attachment thereto by cement comprises U- shaped flexible bands 5, 9 adapted to clamp the parts against a last L. The band 5 is mounted on a plate 35 on a crossbar 21 which can be adjusted lengthwise on a support bar 1 for different shoe sizes. The toe band 9 is similarly mounted on a plate 51 on a crossbar 45 which is pivoted at 49 to the bar 1 and caused by a hand lever 57 to engage the shoe toe with a rearward and downward movement to force it into the heel band 5 and remain in the clamping position until released. As described the apparatus is used for attaching the edges of a sock lining I, upper material U and platform cover C beyond their common point of attachment S to a platform sole P.
