Abstract

A rubber stopper for a pharmaceutical vial is coated with a layer of a silicone oil which acts as a lubricant and an antifoam agent. The oil is applied by dipping the stopper in a solution of 2 per cent of a silicone oil such as that known commercially as DC-200 or GE 9996-300 or di-methyl-di-ethoxy silicone in a solvent such as chloroform, acetone, isoamyl alcohol, benzene, carbon tetrachloride, ethyl acetate, petroleum ether, propyl ether &c. and then drying in air to remove the solvent.
