Abstract
696,505. Chain wrenches. ROBERTSON, A. M. Jan. 8, 1952 [Jan. 18, 1951], No. 1427 / 51. Class 61 (iii). In a chain wrench one end of the chain 19 is attached to the end of the handle 10 the other end of the chain being passed slidably through an eye 15, the arrangement being such that in operation of the wrench the chain loop is locked on the handle in or adjacent the eye. The flattened head 14 of the handle is pierced by a transverse rectangular hole 15 of a size to allow up and down and lateral clearance of the chain. Opposite, parallel cheeks 12, 13 are provided on the head, the cheek 13 being set in from the wall of the handle 10 and joined thereto by a shallow fillet 14. The chain loop may be arranged as shown or at the cheek 12, the part of the chain loop adjacent the hole being locked between the nut 22 to be turned and the handle. In an alternative locking position of the chain, Fig. 3, a pair of chain links is locked obliquely in the hole. The edges of the chain may be serrated or the chain may be fitted with rubber collars or covered with a rubber tube or channel. The Provisional Specification describes also a wrench having a tubular handle, the interior of the tube serving as a guide for the chain.
