Abstract

696,141. Sewing-machines. PFAFF AKT.- GES., G. M. Oct. 27, 1950 [Oct. 31, 1949; June 24, 1950] , No. 26203/50. Class 112. Work supports.-A sewing-machine with a free arm to receive tubular work is provided with an auxiliary plate mounted to lie flush with the arm to form a flat work-plate or to be hinged downwardly clear of the arm when reiliary work-plate 4 is hinged to continuation sections 5 which are connected together and to the arm 9 by a shaft 12 having some lateral freedom in apertures in the vertical walls of the arm; it is drawn to the right, so as to rest on a lip 43 on the end of the arm, by a spring 29 connected to the arm and to the end of a member 26 which has a bore for the shaft 12 and is slidably held to the underside of the top of the arm by studs 36 engaging a slot in the member. The plate 4 is locked in this position by bolts 30 pressed into slots in the members 5 by cam surfaces 27 on the member 26 as it is moved into position; the bolts are normally retracted by a spring 34 so that there is a projection at the sides of the arm. The plate 4 is moved to the out-of-use position by pulling it to the left to clear the lip 43, the movement of the member 26 with it allowing the bolts 30 to withdraw from the members 5, and then moving it below the arm so that it lies parallel to it but clear of it, the members 5 being vertical in this position. In a modification, the bolts 30 are spring- pressed outwards and are withdrawn by cranks actuated by a press-button.
