Abstract

695,738. Seams of paper-making machine felts. SCAPA DRYERS, Ltd. April 6, 1951. [April 15, 1950] No. 8028/51. Class 96. [Also in Groups XXIV and XXV] The ends of a paper-making felt, which may be from 6 feet to 20 feet in width, are joined together by a hinge seam comprising interleaved hooks 24, 26 engaged respectively in the selvage edges 14 of two pieces of webbing 12 and the selvage edges 20 of two pieces of webbing 18, the hooks defining a hole through which is threaded a flexible pintle comprising a core 40 of metal strands embedded in a homogenous covering 44 of nylon having a high resistance to heat and abrasion. The nylon at the projecting ends of the pintle may be upset to increased diameter for preventing axial displacement of the pintle. One end of the felt is stitched to the upper pieces 12, 18, which are wider than the lower pieces, and the other end of the felt is stitched to the upper piece 18.
