Abstract

695,303. Making granules from finely-divided material. WEST NORFOLK FARMERS' MANURE & CHEMICAL CO-OPERATIVE CO., Ltd. Nov. 14, 1951 [Nov. 22, 1950], No. 28569/50. Class 87 (ii). The material is made into a slurry, the slurry is allowed to fall as a curtain within a housing, and drops of the slurry are removed by rods rotating within the housing whilst finely-divided solids are fed into the housing. The slurry material may be phosphatic fertiliser with potassium and/or nitrogenous salt and other organic material, and the additional solids may be the same or different material. Fig. 3 shows a housing 10 within which rotate rods 16 carried by bars 15 supported by spacer plates 14 on a shaft 13. The slurry is fed into the housing by a belt 2 and the solids through a hopper 5. The hopper is at one end of the housing and the belt at the other end. The tips of the rods cut drops from the curtain of slurry and incorporate the solids with the drops. Paddles 18 on shaft 13 advance the material towards an outlet 12. Fig. 1 shows a flow sheet for the process. The slurry is fed to a mixer 1, reduced to a film on belt 2 by a roller 3 and passes into housing 10. Granules emerging from housing 10 fall on to screen 6, oversize granules passing to grinder 8 and then back to the screen, and smaller granules passing to dryer 7 and classifier 8. At 8' material of the desired size is collected as a product and fines are sent back to hopper 5.
