Abstract

Synthetic resin moulding compositions for the manufacture of articles having a self-lubricated surface are made by compounding the resin with a filler and then blending the compounded resin with a sulphide telluride or selenide of molybdenum, zirconium, titanium or tungsten, which acts as a lubricant. The lubricant particles are thus prevented from being coated with a film of the resin and are immediately available in the finished article for lubricating the surface of the article. In an example the following materials were compounded and ground to powder: phenol-formaldehyde resin 53.2; walnut shell flour 8.33; wood flour 25.0; asbestos fibres 5.83; nigrosine dye 1.67; candellila wax 0.833; all parts by weight. About 5 per cent by weight of these materials of molybdenum sulphide was then blended in and the mix ground again.
