Abstract

694,826. Frictional igniters. ZIPPO MANUFACTURING CO. May 22, 1951 [June 16, 1950], No. 11918/51. Class 75(iii) In an igniter body 12 having a flint-wheel 16 mounted adjacent a wick 21 and a windscreen 17 surrounding the wick and one side of the flint-wheel, a flint-wheel protector 22 is provided between the wick and the wheel, separate from and disposed entirely within the windscreen, the protector having an aperture 25 for the passage of sparks. As shown the protector 22, which is higher and wider than the wheel, is curved to confrom with the wheel contour and is arranged within a windscreen 17 to extend across the width thereof. The body 12 is housed within a casing 10 having a hinged lid 11 which is held in open or closed position by a cam lever 18 mounted at one end of the windscreen 17. The lever 18 cooperates with a shaped leaf spring 19, which, together with the protector 22, is secured to the body 12 by a hollow, wickcarrying rivet 20.
