Abstract

694,044. Resilient mountings. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd. June 19, 1951 [June 30, 1950], No. 16343/50. Class 108 (iii). [Also in Group XXXI] Means for resiliently mounting an engine on the frame of a motor cycle comprises a resilient rear attachment, a resilient lower attachment 14 and a front attachment 15, the rear attachment comprising a bracket 11 rigidly secured, e.g. by welding to the frame at the rear of the engine, and connected to the engine by a pin or like element 11g which is resiliently mounted in a rubber bush 11o, the lower attachment comprising rigid members 14ca, 14c secured to the frame and engine respectively and connected by resilient material 14h stressed in shear and the front attachment comprising rigid members 15a, 15d in frictional engagement and which are attached to the engine and frame respectively and are capable of relative displacement only in the plane containing the frame. The rear attachment, Fig. 2, has two rubber bushes 11o, each of which has one flanged end and the other end of which butts against a rubber ring 11p. The bushes and rings are stressed during assembly by means of washers 11h, 11n which transmit the pressure of a nut 11k ; the nut butts against a shoulder on the pin 11g so that a predetermined pressure is applied to the rubber bushes. The resilient members 14h of the lower attachment, Fig. 3, are bonded to studs 14s by which they are trapped between the two rigid members 14a, 14c; a rubber stud 14g on the member 14c prevents excessive movement of the member 14a. The front attachment, Fig. 4, confines the movement of the engine to one plane and reduces its amplitude at low speeds. The rigid members 15a each have a friction part 15c which engages on slides in the member 15d. The degree of friction is adjustable by means of a bolt 15f which connects the two members 15a. The engine exhaust pipe is connected to the frame near its tail by a resilient connection comprising a rubber block with oppositely directed threaded studs bonded to it which is connected between brackets on the frame and exhaust pipe.
