Abstract

693,187. Doctors for paper-making machines. &c. SCOTT, H. E. B. Aug. 29, 1951. [Dec. 22, 1950] No. 31288/50. Class 96. A doctor for paper-making machines &c. comprises the usual angle-bar and rod support (not shown in Fig. 2) carrying a flat bar (also not shown) and holder 20 which is recessed to receive a bar 23 &c., slotted to receive the rear part of a doctor blade 27, which has projections 31 to prevent removal of the blade forwardly whilst the doctor is in operative position, but allowing such removal by lifting it clear of the roll and rotating the bar 23 &c. until the projections 31 can pass a lip 32. A screw-latch may lock the blade against endwise removal, and the bar 23 &c. against turning sufficiently to release the blade. Alternatively a pivoted latch on an arm secured to the bar &c. 23 prevents turning &c. In other modifications, (1) an extension 33 of the holder 20 is substituted by a spring fitted in a slot in the holder or (2) by a spring extension of a hollow, sheet-metal bar 23 ; (3) the projections 31 are beneath the blade, the bar 23 being slotted to suit ; (4) the bar 23 is non-cylindrical and rocks on a ridge ; and (5) the holder 20 is a machined bar e.g. of steel with a smaller bar welded &c. to its under surface. The bar 23 may be composed of short sections fitted together. Specifications 360,028 and 452,147 are referred to.
