Abstract
In making a material comprising dicalcium phosphate by treating an acid solution containing fluorine, calcium and phosphoric acid with a neutralizing agent and separating the precipitate from the solution, the pH value of the reaction mixture during the neutralizing treatment is maintained below 2.5. In one embodiment the acid solution and neutralizing agent are continuously run into a reactor and the reaction mixture continuously withdrawn, the ratio of the rates of flow of the reactants being adjusted so as to maintain a pH value between 1.5 and 2.5. The molar ratio CaO/P2O5 may be adjusted to give sufficient calcium for combination with the phosphoric acid and fluorine to dicalcium phosphate and calcium fluoride respectively, either by crystallizing and removing the required quantity of calcium nitrate or by adding phosphoric acid. Specifications 430,380, 626,662 and 692,251 [Group I], are referred to.
