Class 58 In a sack holder of the kind used on threshing machines and combine harvesters for holding sacks to be filled with grain which is delivered through a spout or funnel 1 fitted with a sliding door or shutter 2 raised and lowered by a hand-lever 10 there is provided a movable clamp 7 for securing a sack placed on the holder, the clamp being operated by the hand-lever 10 which operates the shutter 2 and in such a manner that when a sack is placed on the holder the first operating movement of the hand-lever effects firm closure of the clamp and a further movement of the lever is required to open the shutter, and conversely when the filled sack is to be removed, the lever during its first movement closes the shutter and requires a further move-. ment to open the clamp to release the sack. As shown a funnel 1 having the usual sliding shutter 2 is provided with a curved tongue plate or hook 3 and a bracket 4 having a semi-cylindrical upper part 5 and two lower diverging parts 6 so that it forms a wedge and over which the mouth of a sack is placed. A clamp 7 shaped to conform to the wedge shape of. the bracket is pivotally mounted on a rivet 8 on a rearward part 9 of the bracket 4. A hand-lever 10 provided with two pairs of slots 15, 16 for the reception respectively of a rivet 17 and a pin 18 which is welded to the clamp being operated by the hand-lever 10 through a wire yoke 11 the other ends of which are inserted in holes in the lever while the lower bent end 13 is freely held in a bearing bracket 14 welded to the shutter. Each slot 16 has an entrance slot 19 and a recess 20 is formed in the top of the bracket 4. With the hand-lever 10 in the raised position shown in Fig. 1, the shutter 2 will be closed and the clamp 7 will be held clear of the bracket 4 so that a sack can be placed in position as indicated in dotted lines 21. The lever 10 is then moved down into the horizontal position, Fig. 2 (not shown), firmly clamping the sack between the clamp 7 and the bracket 4, the pin 18 depressing the adjacent portion of the sack into the recess 20, the shutter 2 remaining closed. In order to open the shutter 2 it is necessary to unlock the lever from the clamp by pulling the lever slightly forward to bring the entrance 19 of each slot 16 opposite to the projecting ends of the pin 18 and then to tilt the hand-lever about the rivets 17 so that it pulls up the shutter 2 by means of the yoke 11 as shown in Fig. 3.
