Abstract
691,697. Valves. WESTINGHOUSE BRAKE & SIGNAL CO., Ltd., PETER, L. H., and KERSHAW. N. G. May 23, 1951 [Oct. 19, 1950], No. 25490/50. Class 135 A valve, applicable for controlling pneumatically operated colliery decking plant, is jointly controlled by a handle operated rotary valve and by at least one supply and exhaust valve assembly operated to close the exhaust and open the supply valve by displacement of the handle in a direction other than that for adjusting the rotary valve, the handle being returned to its non-operative position when the operator releases his grip on the handle. When an operator holds the handle 11, Fig. 1, to turn the rotary valve 2, Figs. 1 and 2, the handle is pivoted forward against a spring 14 to close an exhaust valve 23 and open an air inlet valve 22 whereby pressure is supplied via port 3 and passage 21 to the pistons 19, 20 which respectively close main valves 15, 16 and open valves 26A, 26B. By rotating the valve 2 to the " scotches off " position air is supplied through an inline valve, port 27, valve 26B, passage 29 and the valve 2 to a passage 9 and port 10 leading to a scotch block operating device. Rotation of the valve 2 to ram forward position allows air to pass through the port 27, valve 26B, passage 29 and the valve 2 to passage 7 and port 8 leading to the back of the ram piston, the front of the piston being vented to atmosphere via port 6, valve 26A, passage 30, the valve 2, passage 24 and port 25. In the ram back position, air enters port 3, passage 4 and the valve 2 and passes via passage 30 and valve 26A to port 6 leading to the front of the ram piston, the back of the piston being exhausted through port 8, passages 7, 24 and port 25. In any position of the valve 2, releasing the handle allows valve 22 to close and opens valve 23 to exhaust all the ports 6, 8 and 10.
