Class 136 (i) Braking means for the rear wheel B of a cycle comprises brake shoes 12 attached to a U-shaped member 10 which slides in guides 11on the fork A, a compression spring 15 keeping the brake shoes free of the wheel rims B<SP>1</SP>, a lever 16 pivoted to a bracket 13 on the fork A, the lower end 16a of the lever engaging inside the member 10 and the upper end 16b carrying a pivoted pawl 17 which locks with the driving-chain D on back-pedalling. The spring 15 surrounds a rod 14 which is fixed to the member 10 and slides in the bracket 13, a stop 14a limiting the rearward movement of the shoes 12.
