Abstract

The invention comprises esters of 2 : 4 : 5-trichlorphenoxyacetic acid obtainable by esterifying the acid with slight excess of the alkyl mono-ethers of mono- or di-propylene glycol in which the alkyl may be of 1-9 C atoms. The glycol ethers are obtainable by reaction of propylene oxide with excess of a monohydrin alcohol in presence of catalysts. The esters may be prepared in presence of catalysts and with addition of solvents. In examples the acid is treated with 2-methoxy-1-propanol, 1-isopropoxy-2-propanol, 1-nonyloxy-2 - propanol, butoxy - propoxy - propanol, and mixed polypropylene glycol butyl and methyl ethers to give the corresponding esters. Other glycol ethers specified are ethoxy-, propoxy-, butoxy-, and hexoxy-propanols; and methoxy-, ethoxy-, propoxy-, butoxy-, hexoxy-, and nonyloxy-, propoxy-propanols.
