Abstract

690,145. Friction clutches. AMUNDSEN, H. R. Feb. 19, 1951, No. 3962/51. Class 80 (ii). [Also in Group XXXIV] The friction element 2 of a clutch is attached to a carrier 1 by means of a channelled strip 5 which engages a complementary recess 7 in the element. Flanges 8 on the strip 5 engage inwardly directed shoulders 8a, of the friction element 2 and clamp them, by means of nuts 13 and bolts 10, to the carrier 1. Ribs 15 are provided on the flanges 8 to hold securely the friction element even if it should wear into two portions. The heads 9 of the bolts 10 are wedge shaped to counteract deformation of the strip 5 on tightening the nuts 13. The invention may be applied to part-cylindrical friction elements, Fig. 1, or to plane sectoral friction elements, Figs. 8, 11 (not shown).
