Abstract
689,542. X-ray apparatus. SIEMENSREINIGER-WERKE AKT.-GES. July 24, 1951 [July 24, 1950], No. 17556/51. Class 98 (i). [Also in Group XL (a)] A betatron comprises means for deflecting electrons guided on an equilibrium orbit 3 from this orbit on to an X-ray anticathode 4 arranged within the orbit, wherein the deflecting means are adapted to be so changed over (for example by reversal of polarity) that they are able to deflect the electrons outwardly from the equilibrium orbit, an electron outlet window 6 being provided in the wall of the accelerating vessel 2. A lead screen 7 may be provided which has an aperture in which a block of lead 9 may be moved so as to cover the electron outlet window and leave free the path of the X-rays or vice versa. The block 9 is moved by a linkage 15 moved by a hand wheel 17. The linkage 12 may be provided with a projecting pin which operates switches connected to the deflecting means when the linkage is at either end of its travel. Mirrors 22, 23 may be arranged in front of the electron outlet window and in the X-ray path respectively and are illuminated by a lamp 21, the beam of light reflected through the aperture in the screen 7 left free by the block 9 being arranged to have the same dimensions as the X-ray or electron beam.
