Abstract

687,684. Making composite plates. SUPERIOR STEEL CORPORATION. Jan. 9, 1951, No. 613/51. Class 83 (ii). A composite plate or billet comprises a backing member 2<SP>1</SP> and a facing member 3<SP>1</SP> held against the backing member at each side by a fastening means in the form of a flanged plate or strip 4<SP>1</SP> welded to the edges of the member 2<SP>1</SP>. Another facing member may be secured against the other face of the backing member, the fastening means then having a flange along each edge. As shown in Fig. 3. the flange 5<SP>11</SP> may originally be inclined and then pressed down after the positioning of the facing member 3<SP>11</SP>. The backing member may be of rolled steel and the facing of copper or copper alloy.
