Abstract

Distillation plant.-Water is sprayed through nozles 19 into a chamber 16. Water vapour is drawn off by a pump 20 into a condenser 21. The condensate is extracted by a pump 23 and delivered to the sprays r of an air-compressor b. Water is drawn through the cooling coils 22 from the sump of chamber 16 by a pump 18 and delivered to the nozzles 19. The whole of the water from pump 18 may be heated in a turbine exhaust heat-exchanger a1 before being passed to the nozzles 19, or, as shown, a <PICT:0687548/III/1> part of the water is diverted through pump 26 to the exchanger and mixes with the unheated water from pump 18 before the nozzles 19. Impurities collecting in chamber 25 give up their heat to fresh water coming in at 15 and are drawn off at 24.
