Abstract

686,705. Hydraulic shock-absorbers. BOURCIER DE CARBON DE PREVINQUIERES, C. M. L. L. July 17, 1950 [July 15, 1949], No. 17843/50. Class 108 (iii). In a hydraulic suspension shock absorber having a piston arranged to move in a cylinder containing liquid, a permanently open longitudinal passage is provided between the piston and the cylinder to permit laminar flow of the liquid from one side of the piston to the other and the piston is guided by means of bearing surfaces formed on the piston and in contact with the cylinder wall, the bearing surfaces being spaced apart in a circumferential direction. In the arrangements shown, the piston is formed with notches 2 formed in a bearing flange 3 on the piston or notches 22, which may extend over the whole or part of the height of the piston. In another arrangement, Fig. 4 (not shown), the discontinuous guiding surfaces are formed on a flange at each end of the piston, which is of two-part constructon secured together by the piston rod. In a similar arrangement, Fig. 5 (not shown), a ring, or a number of superimposed rings of expansible material is or are mounted on the piston intermediate its ends to compensate for variations in viscosity of oil in the shock absorber cylinder. Specification 686,662 is referred to.
