Abstract

686,112. Facilitating repairs to valves. YOUNG, W. E. Dec. 8, 1950 [Dec. 16, 1949], No. 32314/49. Class 135. A float-operated cistern valve in which a faulty valve member may be rapidly exchanged without interrupting the water supply, comprises a body portion 9 having an inlet 5 and an outlet 6, and a rod 8 secured to the body pivotally mounting a twin cylinder block 7 urged by a spring 10 towards the body. The block is formed with parallel cylinders 7a, each slidably mounting a plunger 4 and formed with a skirt 7e slidable in a bore 9a in the body. To replace a valve plunger, the block is pulled away from the body against the spring 10 to disengage the skirt 7e from the bore 9a, rotated until the skirt 7e of the other cylinder 7a is in alignment with the bore 9a, and then released. Should the new valve plunger project from its cylinder, a ramp 14 on the body 9 guides it into its cylinder on rotation of the block.
