Abstract

686,090. Spill burners. JET-HEET, Inc. -July 17, 1951, No. 16915/51. Class 75(i) [Also in Group XXIX] A spill type liquid fuel nozzle comprises a return tube 36 received within a perforated bushing 20 to leave an annular space 37 therebetween which is sealed at one end by co-operating flanges 40, 42 of the tube and bushing respectively, and a fuel distributer 44 carried on one end of the return tube and having an axial passage 48 communicating with the tube bore, the end face 45 of said fuel distributer having grooves 46 co-operating with a plate 52 which has an axial orifice 56 and is nested in the mouth 60 of a nozzle tip 18, and the said nozzle tip 18 having an internally and externally screw-threaded shank to screw respectively on to the end of the perforated bushing 20 and into the cavity 10 of a base member 8 so that the free end of the return tube 36 is slidably received in a return-flow passage 15 in the centre of the base of the cavity 10, the base member 8 having also a feed inlet 12 leading to the cavity 10. As shown the bushing 20 has circumferential grooves in which the perforations 22, 24 are formed and a filter screen 38 may be arranged therearound. The co-operating surfaces of the bushing 20, return tube 36 and the fuel distributer 44 are chamfered to provide fuel-tight connections and the plate 52 has a conical cavity 58 forming a whirling chamber into which fuel is passed through the obliquely directed grooves 46. The plate 52 and fuel distributer 44 may be formed integral with the nozzle tip 18 and return tube 36 respectively.
