Abstract
685,511. Electric indicating systems. MAIHAK AKT.-GES,, H. May 22, 1951 [June 9, 1950], No. 11937/51. Class 40 (i). Apparatus for the determination of pressure (or temperature) inside a borehole comprises an element sensitive to variations in pressure (or temperature) which varies the tension and hence the frequency of oscillation of a stretched steel wire, the mechanical oscillations being transmitted as electrical oscillations via the insulated pipes of the pump &c., and measured at the surface. For measuring pressure (Fig. 1), the sensitive element is a diaphragm 1 attached to a stretched steel wire 2, vibrating under the effect of an electromagnet 3 connected to the surface through the outer casing 6 and the pump rising pipe 4. The frequency of the vibrations is determined by measuring the frequency of the pick-up in the magnet coil 3. The unit is located in a housing 9 with perforations 8, surrounded by a jacket 10 with perforations 11. For measuring temperature (Fig. 2), the sensitive element 12 consists of a material having a temperature coefficient of expansion different from that of steel. The two units may be combined, and the coil connections brought to the surface via a change-over relay to enable alternate readings of pressure and temperature to be made.
