Abstract

685,332. Retractive switches; switches, partly electromagnetic. DOWTY EQUIPMENT, Ltd. Aug. 29, 1951 [Aug. 29, 1950], No. 21359/50. Class 38 (v) [Also in Group XXXVI] In a switch having magnetic snap-action, the contact pressure is increased upon the application of an operating force until the magnetic attraction is overcome and the contacts open. Movable contacts 10<SP>1</SP>, 111 are mounted in pairs on blades fixed to a member 6 pivoted at 7 and urged upwards by spring blades 26 connected to the contacts and engaging terminal strips 27. The contact blades are clamped between insulating members 21, 21<SP>1</SP> which carry a U-shaped armature 20 co-operating with cylindrical magnets 18, 19, the upper one, 18, holding the parts in the position shown. Depression of a telescopic plunger 37 rotates the member 6 counter-clockwise, thereby bowing the contact blades between the magnets and the member 6. This causes the armature to rock slightly on magnet 18 to increase the contact pressure. The contacts are held by magnet 19 after they snap over until the blades 26 restore them on release of the plunger 37. The switch body is rendered waterproof by a rubber bellows 35 and a sealing ring 50. The fixed contacts are connected to socket contacts of the type described in Specification 685,150, [Group XXXVI]. The Provisional Specification refers to operation of the switch by the retractable undercarriage of an aircraft.
