Abstract

684,999. Rotary compressor. FRANKFURTER MASCHINENBAU AKT.-GES. VORM. POKORNY & WITTEKIND. Sept 29, 1950, No. 23944/50. Class 110(ii) A stream of compressed air is divided, one part being expanded through an engine which drives a compressor through which passes the second part of the stream of air to be raised in pressure. The latter, with its temperature raised is circulated, e.g. around a jacket 19 on the engine 2, and the exhaust from the engine is circulated through a jacket 18 on the compressor 1, for cooling purposes, being exhausted through a port 25. The unit, which may comprise an engine 2 and a compressor 1 of the outwardly-sliding vane type, may be placed in an air hose leading to compressed air tools in a mine, and have a relatively low-pressure supply 12, for both engine and compressor, and a delivery 30 where air at higher pressure is conveyed onwards. Air supply to the engine 2, from a duct 13, is regulated by a centrifugal governor 16 acting on an inlet valve 15, the air feed passing through a duct 21. Air exhausted from the engine flows through a liner 8 to the jacket 18. The compressor has a liner 3 provided with inlet ports 27. A cover 32 allows easy access to the interior of the unit.
