684,723. Ordnance. VERWALTUNGSGES DER WERKZEUGMASCHINENFABRIK OERLIKON. Nov. 2, 1950 [Dec. 1, 1949], No. 26808/50. Classes 92(i) and 92(ii) Relates to guns of the kind in which no special training or elevating gear is provided. According to the invention a shoulder ring 13 for the gunner and also a sight are carried by links 8, 9, 10 forming sides of a parallelogram which can be locked in relation to the gun when adjusted to suit the gunner. The aiming arm 8 of the linkage pivots about a pin which is coaxial with the trunnions 6 and the arrangement is such that the axis 11 of the sight is always parallel to the axis of the barrels 4. In the construction shown the linkage 8, 9, 10 can be moved with respect to the gun cradle 3 by gearing 16 on the arm 8 engaging a toothed arm 23 on the cradle; a handwheel 17 drives the gearing and is fitted with a spring-controlled pin for locking the parts in the adjusted position. The cradle is arranged in a carrier 44 which can be tilted to compensate for the rolling movements of the ship on which the gun is mounted. The tilting is effected by means within a casing 49, such means being geared to an arc 52 on the carrier and being driven by a handwheel 50; the operator of the handwheel has a seat 53 and footrest 54. The weight of the cradle is counterbalanced by an equalizer 59 and that of the linkage 8, 9, 10 by means which include spiral springs which act upon a cam 61. A chain 60 passes from the cam to a casing 24 which is connected to the arm 8. In a modification, Figs. 1 to 5 (not shown), there is no tiltable carrier 44.
