[Also in Group XXXVI] Strip dielectric having separated metallized areas on one face is assembled in a plurality of layers so that the metallized areas are in register, and the assembly is sub-divided by transverse cuts through the unmetallized areas into a plurality of separate condensers. Metallized paper or polystyrene strip is led from spool 10, Fig. 1, via rolls 12, 13, 17 to a demetallizing drum 20 which is profiled to leave metallic areas 25, 26 as shown in Fig. 2, the strip is then wound in a plurality of layers on a wheel 21, the metallic areas of one layer registering with those of the next, but being displaced transversely. To correct for misalignment due to the increasing diameter of the roll 24, a jockey roller 29 moves arm 27 which carries pivoted arm 18 on which is pivoted roller 17, so that the roller 17 is displaced as the diameter increases. When the assembly is complete, the annulus of condensers is removed, copper is sprayed on the end faces through masks on small areas 33, Fig. 3, terminal wires 34, 35 are soldered to the copper faces, and the assembly vacuum dried and impregnated with, e.g. materials known under the Registered Trade Marks Marco (SB-28C) " and " Araldite (Resin B)". The annulus is then divided, the division being preferably associated with a testing machine which tests each section of the annulus in turn, the unsatisfactory units being ejected into a reject bin. The annulus may be tested as a whole. The individual condensers may be flattened by pressure. Specification 647,573, [Group XXXVI], is referred to.
