Abstract
683,055. Engraving. DECKEL, H., and DECKEL, F. W. Sept. 25, 1951 [Oct. 26, 1950], No. 22422/51. Class 100 (ii). [Also in Group XXII] The work table 10 and pattern table 12 of a copying or profiling machine tool, such as a copy - milling machine having a fixed cutter and tracer, are interconnected by a member 34 which is secured to the pattern table and engaged by opposed pairs of ball-bearings 18, 26 and 30, 32, plain rollers, or balls so that the two tables are rigidly interconnected for copying movement in the horizontal directions a but are freely adjustable for relative height by individual adjustment of their supports. The rollers 30, 32 fitted in a block 28 secured to the work table 10 engage the sides of a recess 42 in the member 34 to provide the coupling in one direction and the rollers 18 fitted in recesses 16 and opposed by rollers 26 on blocks 22 each engage a flange 40 to provide the coupling in the other direction. This interconnection eliminates the clearance that would be necessary with a plain sliding coupling but, if the two pairs of rollers 18, 26 are co-axial, the work table can still distort slightly under the weight of a work-piece, without jamming the coupling. To obviate the accurate fitting necessary for the coupling described above, the rollers 18 may be mounted on a plunger loaded by an adjustable spring and the block 28 may have an off-centre slit fitted, if necessary, with an auxiliary spring so that one roller 30 or 32 is elastically loaded. More than two tables may be interconnected and additional means may be provided for securing the pattern table against vertical movement.
