Abstract

681,723. Chain hoists. KULTNER, H. A. Nov. 21, 1949. [April 28. 1949: Oct. 20, 1949] Nos. 29736/49 and 29737/49. Class 78 (v). In a hoist comprising a lifting chain 17 driven by a chain wheel 10, a member 24 is coupled to the wheel and rotated to interrupt the drive to the wheel when the chain climbs relatively thereto. Fig. 1. Lifting chain 17 is secured at 50 and passes round and is driven by chain wheel 10, which in turn is driven from motor 16 through worm 15 and wormwheel 14 and shaft 13, the whole being supported between plates 11 and 12 carried by wheels 51 along girder 52. The motor 16 is operated through two-armed lever 21, pivoted at 22, a pull on operating handle 19 causing lever 21 to move anticlockwise to make switch 23 to cause motor 16 to drive the chain wheel to lift ; and a pull on operating handle 20 likewise causing the motor 16 to drive the chain wheel to lower. The two-armed lever 21 is also operated by releasing member 24, which is freely pivoted on shaft 13 and is resiliently held by helical spring 27, which spring is wrapped round shaft 13 and engages a pin 29 secured on said member 24 and a pin 28 secured to the frame 11-12 ; the said member 24 being operated either when the chain rides up the chain wheel and engages and locks arcuate guide 30 (fixed to said member 24) to the chain wheel, or when limit stop members (e.g. load hook 18) engages either of links 31 and 32 pivoted to the said member 18 or when the chain twists and again engages either of said links 31 and 32 due to the fact that the chain passes through chain-shaped holes 33 and 34 formed therein ; the operation of armed lever 21 by these means serving to bring said armed lever to the intermediate position whereby the motor current is cut off. Fig. 2. In this modification, the switch 23 is omitted and there is included a lever 38 pivoted to said member 24 and operating a pivoted double pawl 37 co-operating with ratchet 38 carried on the shaft 100. The rotary movement of the member 24 causes pawl 37 to engage ratchet 35 to prevent of chain wheel by hand chain 50.
