Abstract
681,365. Mining-machines. JOY MANUFACTURING CO. Aug. 19, 1949 [Sept. 2, 1948; July 5, 1949], Nos. 21651/49 and 21652/49. Classes 68(i) and 85 [Also in Group XXX] In a mining-machine in which a vein disintegrating mechanism is mounted on a mobile carriage so as to have a horizontal turning movement and a radial movement in a lateral plane in respect to a vertical axis, a rearward moving conveyer and a loading scoop are associated with the disintegrating means to move laterally therewith. The loading scoop, which can be rotated about a horizontal axis, clears the floor and directs the cleanings either into the path of the disintegrating means to be carried upwards and rearwards thereby to be delivered on to the conveyer, or the cleanings may be delivered directly to said conveyer which is so designed that, no matter at what radial position it is with respect to the vertical axis, the disintegrated material is always delivered at this axis. Three embodiments of the machine are described. In two embodiments the front portion of the conveyer, in which the scraper bars are flexibly connected by chains, extends downwards beneath the disintegrating means and moves radially in step with said disintegrating means, and in one of these embodiments, io permit of this motion and. to maintain the chain at a suitable tension, the chain on the lower return run passes about a fixed idler sprocket 151 and thence upwards over an idler sprocket 154 before running forwards along telescopic troughing to the front idler sprocket 142. The sprocket 154 is carried by a shaft 156 rotatably supported in carriages which slide in slots 158 formed in the troughing and which are mounted on the piston rods 160 of piston-cylinder assemblies 161, 167 carried on a frame 163 extending through slots 164 in the conveyer troughing. The cylinders are connected by a closed circuit to a cylinder 220 the piston of which is secured to the front conveyer trunking and the proportions of the cylinders are such that the same movement in the longitudinal direction of the rear conveyer is given to the shaft 156 as to the front part of the conveyer during the radial movement thereof. To make small adjustments of the shaft 156 during lateral motion of the front portion of the conveyer, the frame 163 is adjusted longitudinally of the troughing by an arm 212 carrying a roller 211 that runs over a cam surface 210 formed on that part of the troughing which rotates about a vertical axis. In the second embodiment it is the rear idler sprocket which is longitudinally adjustable instead of an intermediate sprocket. The third embodiment is the same as that described in Specification 681,364. Specifications 660,207, [Group XXX], and 674,714 also are referred to.
