Abstract
681,148. Converting. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and GILCHRIST, D. C. Feb. 16, 1950 [Feb. 22, 1949], No. 4839/49. Class 38 (ii). In a system for suppressing ripple in a supply system, of the kind wherein ripple from the supply is applied to a valve or other electric amplifier (e.g. a magnetic amplifier) which injects its output into the system in opposition to the ripple therein, the amplifier is provided with means for rendering it more responsive to one or more selected frequencies, or band of frequencies, than to others. As shown in Fig. 3, the ripple on a D.C. supply line 12, 13 fed by a compound wound machine 10, 11, 14 is reduced by a two-stage valve amplifier 22, 29 which receives the ripple input voltage over condenser 16 and feeds it back with phase reversal to the series commutating field 14 by transformer 34. The gain of the amplifier is increased by a positive and frequency-selective feedback circuit 37-40. The amplifier may be tuned to one or more particular ripple frequencies.
