Abstract

680,212. Tulip-picking machines. LEVERTON & CO., Ltd., H. May 30, 1950 [May 28, 1949], No. 14350/49. Class 6(iii) A vehicular machine for cutting growing crops such as tulip flower heads comprises a frame 1 having front rake teeth 42 for guiding the stems, a stem cutter in the form of a fixed, and preferably inclined, knife blade 4 at the root of the teeth and a conveyer 6 with blades 7 which co-operate scissor fashion with the knife blade and direct the cuttings rearwardly into a bin 3. As shown the U- shaped frame 1 carrying the cutter is supported seesaw fashion on the road axle 11 so that the height above ground at which the flower heads are cut can be varied by raising or lowering the propelling handle x. The frame is connected to the wheel axle by radius bars 9, 10 pivoting on a shaft 17 and sectors 13, 14 permit of relative adjustment for height of handle. The conveyer 6 is driven by adjustable chain gear from the wheel axle 11 and the frame carries one or more displaceable legs 51.
