Abstract

680,107. Belt abrasive machines. MORRIS, Ltd., B. O. Feb. 3, 1950 [Feb. 3, 1949], No. 2942/49. Divided out of 680,106. Class 60. A self -contained grinding or polishing machine comprises an endless belt 30 passing around rollers 3, 12, 50 positioned at the apices of a triangle bounded by the belt, and a motor 47 incorporated in the machine for driving one of the rollers, that roller which forms a pressure or backing roller for the part of the belt engaged by the work being carried upon a mounting providing a rigid or unyielding support for the roller. The backing roller 50 is supported on a clamp 51 slidable on a column 11 and serving as a rigid support. The upper roller 3 is carried on the column by means - described in Specification 680,106 permitting it to be tilted for proper tracking of the belt. The lower roller 12 is mounted on the shaft of the motor 47 which is carried on a bracket 48 pivoted to a pedestal 13. An arm 49 on the bracket is pivoted to a control bar 33 provided with a series of notches 35 for engaging a peg 36 on the column; a guard rail 37 limits upward movement of the bar when it is released from the peg. All the rollers may be adjustable axially. The Provisional Specification describes also the pivoted bracket 48 as being spring-loaded in a direction to tension the belt and associated with means for adjusting the tension.
