Abstract

678,485. Centrifugal pumps; stuffing-box substitutes. WILFLEY & SONS, Inc., A. R. Aug. 11, 1950 [Sept. 28, 1949], No. 20041/50. Classes 110(i) and 122(v) A centrifugal pump casing comprises intake and discharge shells 14 and 15 respectively, fastened to opposite faces of an annular member 12 which is integral with a baseplate 11. The shell 15 is fastened in place by bolts 18 which are spaced 90 degrees apart, permitting the discharge neck 15a to be arranged in the alternative positions shown dotted in Fig. 3. The fastening screws 19 for the shell 14 are spaced 45 degrees apart, to permit the intake neck 14a to take up the alternative positions shown dotted in Fig. 4. Seal rings are provided at diameters S<SP>1</SP> and S<SP>2</SP> between an intermediate annular member 16 and the shells 15 and 14 respectively. The hub of the impeller 30 is extended to form a sealing impeller having blades B. The pump is in other respects similar to that described in Specification 682,015. Specification 432,838 also is referred to.
