Abstract

677,999. Rectifying. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and DALE, S. H. April 24, 1950 [April 22, 1949], No. 10765/49. Class 38 (ii). In a polyphase rectifier or invertor having at least one rectifier device such as a vapour arc rectifier 29 and one or more transformers 10 having first windings 14 ... 16 star connected to an A.C. supply 11 ... 13 and forming a neutral point 17 for the D.C. negative pole, and second windings 20 ... 22 cyclically interconnected, such as in interstar, between the first windings 14 ... 16 and anodes 26 ... 28 of the convertor 29 to form an auto-transformer arrangement, the latter windings are so arranged that when any one convertor anode conducts, the magneto-motive forces set up by the windings of each transformer limb substantially balance out each other. The transformer may comprise a single multi-limb core, or a plurality of single phase cores, and the invention is also applicable to six-phase fork connection. The percentage ratings of the auto-transformers compared with equivalent double wound transformers are given in the Specification. Output voltage variation may be obtained by grid control or by connecting either the A.C. supply or the second windings to tappings on the first windings.
