Abstract

677,571. Pulse generating circuits. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. March 12, 1951 [March 13, 1950], No. 6202/50. Class 40 (vi). A pulse generator comprises a capacitor which is alternately charged through a resistor and discharged through a gas-filled discharge tube, a further gaseous discharge tube being switched in shunt with at least a portion of the resistor, so that the capacitor is rapidly charged for a selected portion of its re-charging period. The Figure shows a pulse generator in which at the commencement of a cycle the cold cathode tubes 4 and 16 are non-conductive and capacitor 10 is charged from the H.T. supply via resistors 12 and 25. When a triggering pulse is applied to the trigger electrode 3 of tube 4 the tube fires and capacitor 10 is discharged rapidly through it until the tube 4 is extinguished. Capacitor 10 then commences to recharge slowly through resistors 12 and 25 and the charging current produces a potential drop across resistor capacitor circuit 12, 21 which increases until tube 16 fires. Capacitor 10 then re-charges rapidly through tube 16 and the cycle is thus completed until a further triggering pulse is applied at 1. The output pulse may be derived at terminal 22.
